Troubleshooting
Why Is My Filter Flushing Too Often?
Learn the most common causes of excessive flush cycles and how to solve them.
If a self-cleaning filter is flushing too often, the system is usually experiencing rapid debris buildup, high solids loading, an overly fine screen, or an undersized filter. Frequent flushing is not always a control problem; it often indicates that the filter is working harder than expected for the water quality or flow conditions.
Common Causes
- High suspended solids in the incoming water
- Micron rating is too fine for the application
- Filter is undersized for the flow rate
- Differential pressure setpoint is too low
- Flush cycle duration is too short
To solve frequent flushing, review the water source, screen size, flow rate, and differential pressure settings. In some cases, a larger filter or different screen selection may be needed to reduce cleaning frequency.
